Use is up, wear it out, make it do or do without

This phrase is one we have all heard many times but I have never really applied very well in my life.  So, I am turning over a new leaf.  Michael's shoes broke this week, so we glued them back together instead of running out and getting him new ones.  We'll see how it works!
