Dad, can you tell me what this is, and what it's for? It's a trick I learned from you 24 years ago, and it still works like a charm. Thanks for involving me then so I could do it again when the time came.
UPDATE: It's melted lead, and those well-weighted cars garnered 2nd and 3rd places for Michael and Joshua, respectively.

Hot wax those axles so that derby car will roll faster!
So close, Dad. It's lead fishing weights melted in a tuna can we poured into cavities in the bottom of the boys' cars to double their weight. :)
I remember you doing it for my very first bright orange derby car when we lived in Houlton.
