Can't See the Computer Screen

Too many tears in my eyes, such love I feel for all of you. I am, above all men, most blessed. Thank you all for your blogs and comments. My day is better. Families are... (You fill it in!)

A Few Things and a Promise Fulfilled

1. I was talking to my dad today and he said "You know what I've been thinking about lately?" I said, "What?" He said, "How great your in-laws are." I said, "Yeah, they are." Then he went on to talk about all of you...how my parents-in-law are great, all of Justin's siblings and their spouses are great, how the extended family is great (he's met G & G Workman and the aunts and uncles in Provo). Just thought I should let you all know! He loves you guys. And then perhaps to make me not feel bad he added "Justin didn't do too bad marrying you either." "Thanks, Dad."

2. I spent some time today reading the very beginning blogs on here, the ones where I wasn't quite part of the family yet. My thoughts: people used to blog a whole lot more (okay, so maybe at least half of them were Justin because he was single and lonely). Photo Friday was cool, we should keep that up (remember that it doesn't have to be a picture you took that day, it could be an old picture). Also, as I read Justin's first few blogs about me I was thinking "wow, he was really happy back then..." Then, I realized he's just as happy now, only not in a twitter-pated way.

3. Justin promised you the story of how our lives flipped upside-down in what he called a "weekend" in this post. He never gave you said story. Let me enlighten you on how, in one week, I went from dating another guy to knowing I wanted to marry your brother/son. Yes, we dated before this, but the start up of our second round of dating went like this:
  • Friday: I saw Justin on campus. He asked me to dinner. I said I couldn't. I was dating someone. He asked if I was happy. I said not really.
  • Weekend: I tried to break up with the guy I was dating for about the 4th time, and once again, he convinced me to stay with him.
  • Monday: I didn't see him, but Justin saw me on campus with the other guy and it made him jealous. Then, I saw him and he didn't see me and I longed to be with him, to date him again.
  • Tuesday: I saw Justin again. This time I talked to him about how I had been wanting to get out of the relationship I was in. He talked through it with me, and with his help (he basically told me to say it's over and walk away and not look back), I broke it off a few hours later. Justin swears he didn't have any ulterior motives.
  • Wednesday: We spent time together and held hands.
  • Thursday: We studied in the library and he kissed me on the cheek when we said good night.
  • Friday: Byron came to town and the three of us had dinner - this was the night Aunt Carol died. That night Justin kissed me for the first time and we were an item.
  • Saturday: Justin told me he loved me and wanted to marry me. Woohoo!
  • Sunday: I began the process of praying about it to see if it would be right. I got the answer much sooner than I expected. I knew that day that it was the right thing. Later, I received additional confirmation.
And, the rest is history! It was two years ago this month that I met Justin (again, ironically the same month that you all as a family started praying for him to meet someone).

No, not jealous

- My husband just bought me flowers...my favorite flowers.

-We finally got the crib set up and name plaque made (name obscured)!
- I spent a long time yesterday making a fabulous dinner: Island Broiled Chicken, Baked Beans, Rolls, Mashed Potatoes...mmmm. Our house smelled like Thanksgiving.
- I also made homemade almond chocolates that are so good!
- We went to a BYU soccer game for the first time (they lost, but it was still fun).

-We went to a BYU football game against the aggies and we totally won!

- We got ice cream afterward, and I don't think anything has ever hit the spot better.

Jealous?

- We just ate at Tucanos... I am still full and it has been 10 hours!
- Shell just paid me a compliment (She told our guest that I just didn't want to boast on how sweet I am when I asked my wife to do something without saying 'please')
- We pigged out on Cheetos and halloween candy watching Wipe Out on Hulu.com (A show where people go through rediculous obsticle courses and flop, fly, or fall against time - a real crack up at 1 in the morning)
- Took the kids to Jumping Jacks and learned that if you bend a certain wall down the kids can climb onto them only to be thrown through the air when you let go. Yeah, we did it till someone was crying (then we did it some more).
- found a couple of potential investors for the company I am still trying to start and am pumped about it again.
- Shell found the best swimsuits EVER! (Had a fashion show) and she's happy!

Life is to be enjoyed and not just endured and today was totally enjoyed!

Perspective

Family, one of my fellow umpires shared this with me and I want to share with you, my family, because of how wealthy I feel as your father.

One day, the fath
er of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spend a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son:
"How was the trip?"
"It was great dad"
"Did you see how poor people live?"
"Oh yes"
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip"

The son answered --
I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property but to protect us but they have friends to protect them.

The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are."

Perspective is priceless. It makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your family.
